YÁO Residency is YÁO’s long-term residency programme, exploring how culture, materials and local experiences can inform artistic practice. The programme invites artists and creative practitioners to bring their existing interests and approaches into different social and cultural contexts, engaging in fieldwork, research and exchange. Through encounters with materials, crafts and local knowledge, participants are encouraged to develop new directions in their practice.

The residency is structured in two stages. The first focuses on everyday life and research, with an Open Studio offering an opportunity to share observations and work in progress. Following a period of reflection and further development, the second stage centres on artistic production and an exhibition. The time between these stages allows research and experiences to continue evolving, rather than placing the emphasis on completing finished works during the residency itself.
